Lowman Designs evolved as a company when semi-retired Leanne and Rick
Lowman began helping friends and former employers fill unique needs and solve
functional problems.  Retiring early to complete both the design and building of
the ideal retirement home (M/V ToucAnne) and to pursue the larger scale
production of the
CarolinaPurse, they found their years of industrial experience
and common sense approach to design work still in demand.

Captain Richard M Lowman, PE
After graduating from Virginia Tech with a BS in Aerospace Engineering, Rick began his
engineering career in the Aerospace industry, but then moved into the packaging industry where the
projects and responsibilities were broad and varied.  He enjoyed 30 years as an  engineer in the
Composite Can Division of SONOCO Products Company. During his career the Composite Can
Division grew from the fifth largest manufacturer to the largest.
His experience during this period of expansion included the design and installation of new production
lines, entire production plants, new equipment purchases, and specialty equipment design. Rick
advanced as manager of an engineering group of up to 12 talented and busy professionals.
During the last 5 years of his career Rick was busy designing new equipment. Many 50 year old
systems were redesigned to take advantage of servos and other control technologies to improve
safety, simplify design, maintenance, and increase speed capabilities.
A registered Professional Engineer Rick is literate in most Microsoft Office applications,
AutoCad, SolidWorks, and Alibre 3D CAD. Rick is also a USCG licensed Captain.
Rick has been awarded many patents for his original design of equipment in both the Aeorspace
and Packaging industries. This equipment is in operation around the world today.

                         Captain Leanne Alexander Lowman, MS
As a graduate of Virginia Tech with an MS in Clothing and Textiles, a master thesis in Functional
Design and many years of experience with clothing construction and textiles, Leanne began her
former career as a Designer and Product Development Engineer of Chemical Protective Clothing
with Mar Mac manufacturing.   Working on Dupont Protective Apparel projects involved Leanne with
everything from first responder HAZMAT suits to protective military apparel. During her career she
was responsible for every phase of the development for each garment from concept to final
construction.  Leanne's design tools were the Lectra Apparel CAD modules, Excel, and other MS
Office programs.
Leanne was honored to be selected as a Wardrobe Design Assistant for Reba MacEntire's
1996 World Tour. It was a thrill to work closely with Reba and the other members of the group.
Leanne is a former Eastern Airlines Flight Attendant with a wide range of experience in Business
& Marketing. And Leanne is a USCG licensed Captain.
