MY FIRST PAINTING - "Life in the Lily Pads"

My model for this painting was a piece of tapestry material. The colors, frog, and dragonfly are of my own
choice. The dragonfly is a "Swamp Darner". One of these attached itself upon the screen of our porch long
enough for me to capture some really good pictures, so I used that as my model for the dragonfly. The frog is
painted in the colors of the most poisonous frog in Ecuador. This is one of the most poisonous frogs known to
man. There are enough toxins in the skin of this little frog to wipe out an entire football team. It is referred to
as the Pain Killer, because scientist have indicated that an extract from the frog's skin blocks pain up to 200
times more effectively than morphine. But, then you die! :-( (Oh My!).  Researchers at Abbot Laboratories
have synthesized the compound which is expected to be in use within five to ten years as ABT-594.
This puts new meaning in the saying " Beauty is only skin deep". But in nature, the prettiest are often the
deadliest. The dragonfly is flying into the painting, another beauty, as if to tease the frog. But the water lilies
and blue water are calming and peaceful. So in spite of the potential dangers, there is much peace and
beauty around us. Isn't that the way of life.

Yes, both Rick and Leanne are licensed captains but the art is the work of Captain Leanne.  The lily
pad is her first piece of art painted in acrylic on 16 x 21 canvas.  With a creative eye, spirit of
adventure and a love of nature, Leanne has turned to painting as a creative outlet.
As a student of Art at the Glynn Art Association located on St Simons Island, Georgia, Leanne is
learning to express her ideas under the instruction of Barbara Mueller.

This is my Second painting. For the subject, I used a collection of pictures that I had taken of the egrets as
they visited the sand bar in front of our house.  There were so many interesting poses it was hard to
choose which ones to use, but this collection just makes me laugh.
